Finding My Perfect Medium: Why I Chose Jesin for LLGT

I'm Shaye, the designer-maker behind Love, Laugh, and Gather Together (LLGT). I'm so excited to share a little bit about the creative medium I chose to make YOUR decorative objects.

My exploration of different eco-resin mediums began in 2024. Like many beginners, I quickly learned that there's more to crafting than meets the eye! I experimented with various materials, drawn to the smooth, ceramic finishes of eco-resin. I thought using of Jesmonite, appreciating its strength and ability to mimic different textures but was hard to locate in the USA for a reasonable price. I also experimented with Mix to Mold by Brea Reese, attracted to its ease of use but it the pieces broke easily. These initial explorations—both the successes and the not-so-successful attempts—helped me understand what I didn't want, which was just as valuable in guiding me toward the right material for LLGT.

Then, I discovered Jesin by Mrs. Colorberry. This incredible two-component polymer gypsum system consists of a gypsum base component (the powder) and a water-based acrylic resin (the liquid). Jesin was a game-changer in my creative process! It possessed all the great qualities of Jesmonite and more. It’s flame-retardant, solvent-free, environmentally friendly, and contains no VOCs.

The powder and liquid mix allow for beautiful pigment blending, creating rich, vibrant colors that perfectly capture the spirit of this collection. Jesin is also paintable, drillable, and polishable, offering endless creative possibilities.

While Jesin's natural finish is a beautiful matte, its versatility truly shines through. A simple sealant can add a glossy sheen, and a touch of oil and wax brings out the pigment colors in ways that we all fall in love with. And although Jesin is an eco-friendly resin, it looks and feels like genuine ceramic, adding an element of timeless elegance to my pieces.

Beyond its beauty, Jesin also offers incredible durability. It is also weatherproof for outdoor areas.   Whether you place your LLGT piece indoors or outdoors, it can withstand different conditions without compromising their integrity.

This adaptability and the beautiful ceramic-like quality were huge draws for me. Inspired by artists like Phil Cuttance and Stephanie Grace, whose innovative use of materials and techniques are truly inspiring,  I have incorporated their approaches into LLGT to make every handcrafted item tell a story, inspire, and motivate—just when you need it most.
